HAPPY HAWKS
Northwestern “Happy Hawks” program is dedicated to providing children from the ages of 4–10 with a developmental disability the opportunity to play ice hockey. Our therapeutic program teaches skating and hockey skills, as well as gives the player the opportunity to play a team sport. Through hockey, the program emphasizes the continued development of individual life skills such as self-reliance, dependability, focus and confidence.
WHO IS IT FOR?
Children ages 4 to 10 with a developmental disability.
WHAT MAKES HAPPY HAWKS DIFFERENT THAN ANY OTHER SKATING OR HOCKEY PROGRAM?
HAPPY HAWKS will teach the basics of skating and hockey in an environment with reduced distraction and personalized attention. The schedule is set and will not change. Our mission is to provide training in ice hockey for individuals with developmental disabilities. The overall goal of our organization is to allow all individuals the opportunity to experience the excitement that comes with learning a new skill. The skill sets learned will encompass skating, the game of hockey, and being a member of a team. We offer friendships, self-reliance and a team experience to our athletes and families.
SCHEDULE AND LOCATION
HAPPY HAWKS is offered as follows:
Gunnery School in Washington
One hour per week
Gunnery Schedule: Sundays 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
December 3, 2017 to March 4, 2018
COST
The cost for HAPPY HAWKS at the Gunnery School is $250 for the season. In addition, registration with USA Hockey is required for insurance purposes. The cost to register with USA Hockey is currently $47.50 and that fee is paid directly to USA Hockey. You must FIRST register with USA Hockey before registering online for HAPPY HAWKS. Note: USA Hockey does not charge a fee for players born 2011 or later, but registration is still required.
