MITE CROSS-ICE HOCKEY (6 AND UNDER)

(Junior Division)

6U Cross Ice

USA Hockey calls all players 8 years old and under "Mites".  The MITE CROSS-ICE HOCKEY (6U) program is for players that typically have one year of skating experience (Intro to Hockey or equivalent).  There will be 1 practice per week (usually on Saturday) and 1 cross ice game (usually on Sunday) starting in mid-October and running through the end of February. In addition, skaters can attend a weeknight skills clinic for free running from December through February.  Players will be divided into teams that are as competitively even as possible.

WHO IS IT FOR?

Children ages 5 and 6 (and some 7 year olds based on their size or skill level) who have 1 year of skating experience (Intro to Hockey or equivalent).  For the 2017/18 season, that would be birth years 2011 and 2012 (and some born 2010).

WHAT MAKES MITE CROSS-ICE HOCKEY (6u) DIFFERENT THAN INTRO TO HOCKEY?

MITE CROSS-ICE HOCKEY (6U) follows the USA Hockey American Development Model (ADM) to focus on the skills necessary to play the game of hockey. Since the children have already had 1 year of Intro to Hockey instruction, the focus can be on hockey skill development to go along with continued skating development.
