Weekly Wrap Up - 1/31/2010

The season heads into the final stretch at Northwestern Hockey as the teams prepare for the upcoming State tournaments.  Go Icehawks!  For complete results, visit www.northwesternhockey.com.

Bantam B - 6   Wallingford Hawks Bantam B - 3
Goals scored by Bradley Touponse(3), Mark Vetter, Micheal Curcio and Sean Reimer.  Assists by Luke McFadden(2), Mark Vetter and Drew Donzella.  John Laucius and Sean Reimer were strong on defense.  Goalie Carl Larosa had 15 saves for the win.
 
Eschenbach Optik Squirt B - 4   Middlesex B - 1
Although outshot 27 to 14, the Icehawks managed a victory due in part to excellent goal tending by Win Salk. Mike Benson had many hard shots two of which Andre Vial gathered up and shoved in the net. Carter Matthews also found the back of the net twice, unassisted. Thomas Roche was solid on defense.
 
Eschenbach Optik Squirt B - 1   Simsbury B - 8
The Icehawks suffered a lopsided defeat when faced with a slick passing, hard skating Simsbury squad. Andre Vial scored the lone goal assisted by Christian Schopfer. Camden Fowler skated well in the loss. In net, Win Salk recorded 34 saves.
 
Girls U12 - 3   Wallingford U12 - 2
NW Girls U12 team executed some nice passing and came away with a win. The defense did there job holding the blue line well were Medison Corso, Gillian Schullery, and Meghan Maxey. Mackenzie Bokina had a hat trick assists went to Ally Helmus and Shannon Maxey. Taking the puck forward from defense were Anna Vailionis and Brooke Landry. Back checking and strong skating from Emma Colesworth and Julia Malsin. Improved play shown from Alyssa Malsin, Margaret O'Connell, Clare Costello, and Cameron Long. Taking control in the crease Emma Reynolds tallied 7 saves.
 
Girls U14 - 8   Ridgefield U14 - 0
Katie Butler and Rebecca Shvartsman each had 3 goals. Ally Helmus scored the remaining two goals. Julia Malsin gets credit for 3 assists, Helmus and Shvartsman also had assists. Brianna Walker, Brooke Landry, and Emma Colesworthy had assists as well. Annie Robbins was solid on defense, Casey Freund made 12 saves for the shut out.
 
Girls U14 - 2   New England Jr. Falcons U14 select - 4
Maisie Wanag had the first goal assisted by Julia Malsin and Rebecca Shvarstman. Shvartsman had the second goal assisted by Brooke Landry and Hanna DeMarco. Solid defense from Annie Robbins and Ally Helmus.  Casey Freund made 22 saves in goal. The Falcons scored the fourth goal on an empty net as the Ice Hawks pulled the goalie in an attempt to tie it up.
 
Lake Group Media Mite A - 4   Wonderland Wizards - 2
2 Goals by Mason Von Jess, and one each from Ryan Fanella and Tim Manning were enough to topple the downstate mystics. Chris Sidebotham assisted on the Fanella goal.  Trevor Davis and Evan Golembeske were solid on Defense.  Daniel Manning made 10 saves in goal.  NWCYH opened with 3 goals in the first and one in the second.  The officials kept both penalty boxes full for a majority of the game.
 
Lake Group Media Mite A - 6   Watertown Mite A - 2
Mason Von Jess scored two goals. Other goals came from Chris Sidebotham, Jake Hoadley, Jack Zona, and Tim Manning.  Trevor Davis was strong on defense and Daniel Manning made 20 saves in goal.
 
Lake Group Media Mite A - 6   Southern Mite A - 6
Another back-and-forth nail biter!  Joseph Robinson led the scoring with 2 goals.  Other scorers were Tim Manning, Chris Sidebotham, Hayden Giampietro, and Mason Von Jess.   Assists were provided Trevor Davis(2), Jack Zona, Evan Golembeske, and Tim manning.  Mason Von Jess was strong on defense.  Daniel Manning made 13 saves in goal.   After falling behind 6 - 5 in the third period, the Mite A's scored with just 1:48 left in the game to achieve the tie.
 
MEDInstill Girls U14 Tier II - 7   Central Park Lady Hawks - 1
The MEDInstill Girls U14 Tier team played team hockey! Fallon Oeser led the way with two goals and an assist, Ally Lavigne had two goals, One goal each from Alana Lopez, Tristin Izzo and Alice Bouchard, Meghan Dietter had two assists and Maddy Holland had an assist. Strong defensive play from Emma Hannan, Denise Landry, Breanna Barksdale and Holland. Lexi Long tallied 9 saves.
 
MEDInstill Girls U14 Tier II - 1   Westchester Vipers U14 - 1
A solid game from the MEDInstill Girls U14 Tier II team.  Playing short handed was overcome by excellent teamwork.  Skaters were where they needed to be and heads up passing lead to several attempts on goal.  The MEDInstill girls recorded 31 shots on net.  Maddy Holland scored on an awesome tip in from a rebounding shot by Ally Lavigne.  The offense never stopped skating; Meghan Dietter and Fallon Oeser dominated the center position.  Wingers Alana Lopez and Alice Bouchard fought hard on the boards to keep possession.  Three in defense meant short breaks; Denise Landry, Breanna Barksdale and Emma Hannan handled it very well.  Goalie Heather Ogden captured a few tricky tumbling pucks, she had 13 saves.
 
Mite B - 0   Wonderland Wizard Mite B - 9
Being short 5 players wound up being a little too much to overcome as the Mite B's came up scoreless against a tough Wizards team. Emily Sanford and Colin Kennedy played well on offense and Shealyn Kennedy and Cameron Schopfer played well on defense. In goal, Bennett Danvers made 23 saves in the loss.
 
Mite B - 0   Enfield Mite A - 4
Playing against a very fast and skilled Enfield team our Mites played hard but were again held scoreless. Markus Paltauf and Milo Novitz played well on offense while Matthew Hassiak and Nicholas Conway-Drendel did well on defense. Goalie Ben Marano made 28 saves in the loss.
 
Peewee B - 3   ECHO PWB - 4
The PeeWee B Ice Hawks fell a little short at the Bolton Ice Palace Saturday afternoon losing 4-3. Jack Sommerfeld scored twice and Mason Butts had a goal of his own. Dimity Wanag and David Demeo assisted on the goals. Jack Kolpak, Max Ryan, and Justin Thompson were busy on defense. Goaltenders Zack Schullery and Jon Spencer had 23 saves combined.
 
Peewee B - 2   Greater Bridgeport PWB - 2
The PWB Ice Hawks scored two goals in the third period to tie Greater Bridgeport 2-2 Sunday evening. Max Ryan and Payton Meyer scored for Northwest with Jack Kolpak assisting on one of the goals. Colton Loomis and Griffon McIntyre were solid on defense. Jon Spencer and Zack Schullery had 16 saves for Northwest.
 
Southbury Heritage Hotel Peewee A - 8   Central B Blue - 0
A solid win by the PWA team.  Goals were scored by Tyler Hoadley (3), Tommy Nisco, Nick Behney, Brian Manzer, Jameson Steinhardt and Jack Kennedy.  Assists were added by Brian Manzer (2), Nick Behney, Tommy Nisco, Jack Kennedy, Tyler Hoadley, Riley Zimmerman (2) and Patrick Donovan.  Peter Mehler and MacKenzie Schopfer were solid on defense.  Goalie Alex Fortuna had 15 saves.
 
Southbury Heritage Hotel Peewee A - 3   Greater Bridgeport A1 - 3
An evenly matched game today!  Goals scored by Nick Behney (2) and Brian Manzer with assists added by Tommy Nisco, Noelle Capriglione and Riley Zimmerman.  Solid defense by Natalie Capriglione and Ray Borsari.  Goalie Alex Fortuna had 16 saves.
 
Squirt A - 2   Greater Bridgeport Squirt A1 - 1
In a very exciting game, the Northwestern Squirt A's beat the Greater Bridgeport Squirt A1's 2 - 1 at Canterbury.  Goals were scored by Jack Hannan and Tabor Wanag, with assists by Wanag and Destiny Claxton.  Strong defense by Jonah Lavigne and Tommy Schneider and 19 saves by goalie Ben Berg kept Bridgeport scoreless for the second and third periods.

2009 - 2010 Icehawk Merchandise Now Available

NWCYH Families,

We are pleased to announce that 2009-10 NWCYH merchandise is now available.  And...it is available online for your convenience and for delivery for the holidays.  It has been our objective to provide new merchandise and a more convenient way for NWCYH families to order and recieve it.  We think you will appreciate this new process.

However, you will need to act quickly to receive merchandise by December 24.  Please access the website by clicking the "Merchandise" menu option on the NWCYH Home Ice menu.  To receive merchandise by December 24, you must place your order by December 8.  Please note that additional items will be available in the weeks to come, but they will not be delivered in time for the holidays.

We look forward to seeing the new NWCYH merchandise everywhere!  Icehawk Pride!!!
